Our Douglas Fir Yorkshire Boarding is Yorkshire boarding in Douglas fir, for external use.

About Douglas fir

Colour varies from pinks and browns to creams depending on where in the tree the board is cut. Dark brown knots can loosen as the wood dries, and resin patches may ooze a little at first and in later hot summers.

Left untreated it weathers to silver grey.

A strong, hard-wearing softwood, supplied fresh sawn.

Profile and fitting

Yorkshire boarding is fixed with a gap between boards, giving shelter with ventilation. Recommended gap between boards: half the board width (50 mm on 100 mm boards, 75 mm on 150 mm boards).

Good to know

  • Use stainless steel or specialist coated fixings: iron fixings can react with Douglas fir and cause black staining.
  • Natural timber varies: expect some differences in colour and grain from board to board and from the photos.
  • Sizes are nominal and can vary slightly with moisture content.
